A NEW SOLUTION FOR FOOD PACKAGING: THE CONTITAL CASE

Contital Srl, leader in the food packaging sector, is one of the main suppliers of aluminium containers on the European market. The company was founded in 1991 and it is part of Laminazione Sottile Group, specialized in the transformation of aluminium and consisting of a total of 8 companies in different countries.

The production plant, based in Pignataro Maggiore (CE), was expanded as a result of growing sales volumes, and the storage area was also enlarged with the aim of improving customer service.

Contital has recently chosen the solution proposed by System Logistics, that designed the entire plant. The new interoperational logistics system, which will be built next to the production plant, will be composed of an automatic self-supporting warehouse in double and triple depth, with a height of 29 metres and served by 5 stacker cranes for storing raw materials, packaging materials and finished products. A system vehicle loop (SVL) consisting of 11 head shuttles will connect all operational areas: inputs and outputs within the production area, including 3 AGV trolleys for connection to the lines, 3 "goods-to-man" picking bays for the shipping area and for goods receipt from external sources.

The system has been designed to manage 1,500 different SKUs, for a total of 14,580 pallet positions. Data analysis and simulation allowed precise sizing of the entire system, and represented once again the flagship of System Logistics' pre-sales phase.
